Consider Having Your Roofing Company Add On These Services

Arthur Menard

Having your roof replaced is a big step, and it can be an expensive step. As such, your first thought may not be to add on extra services when you're already having your roof replaced. However, doing so can save you money and hassle in the long run. Here are some additional services you may want to ask your roofing contractor to add to your roof replacement project.

New Gutters

Some roofing companies automatically replace your gutters when they replace your roof. But it's more common for roofers to only replace the gutters upon request. Chances are, your gutters have not been replaced since the last time your roof was replaced, so they are probably not in the best shape. They might have some holes in them, or they may be starting to rust through. If your roofer puts them back on, you may have to call in a couple of years and have new gutters put on your house. It can be easier to just have the gutters replaced along with the roof so you don't have to make an extra call later on.

Added Vents

Your roof may, indeed, have enough vents. But in years past, it was more common for builders to underestimate venting needs when designing homes. So, particularly if you have an older home, you should ask your roofing contractor to examine your vents and make sure there are enough. If your roofer finds your home isn't ventilated well enough, they may add some more vents. This could help keep your attic cooler, reduce the development of ice dams, and reduce your energy bills. It's much easier for a roofer to add more vents when they're already replacing the roof.

Attic Insulation

Not all roofing companies also install attic insulation, but most do. Attic insulation protects your roof by basically preventing heat from passing through your roof. If there's not enough insulation in your attic, having the roofer add some is wise. Your roofer may also look at your insulation, notice that it is compacted or worn, and then replace the insulation to help protect your home and roof over the coming years.

If you're already having your roof replaced, talk to your roofing company about also replacing insulation, adding vents, and replacing your gutters. They can look over your home and give you a better idea of which, if any, of these services are necessary.
