5 Signs Your Blinds Are Ready To Be Replaced

Arthur Menard

Blinds are designed to provide your windows with protection for many years. However, they are not indestructible and will eventually need to be replaced. It is essential to be aware of the signs that your blinds have reached the end of their usable life need to be replaced.

#1: Warped & Bent Slats

The slats on your blinds are designed to lay flat. If they start to become warped or misshapen, you will not be able to raise and lower the blinds safely. If you have a single slat or two that are damaged, you may replace them. If you have a whole set of damaged slats, you will want to replace your blinds.

Blinds can become warped and bent due to humidity and heat. They can also get this way due to normal wear and tear over the years.

#2: Hard to Operate

It should be really easy for you to operate your blinds. You shouldn't have to use a lot of force to get your blinds raised up and down. You shouldn't have to twist with a lot of force to open or close the slats.

When your blinds become hard to operate, that is a sign that the mechanical components that allow them to move have become worn down. There is also an increased risk that your blinds could fall out of your windows if you use too much force to try and get them to respond correctly.

#3: Frayed Cords

There are multiple cords on your blinds. There is the cord you use to lift your blinds up and down. Then there are the cords that run through your blinds and allow the individual blinds to move. If any of the cords are starting to become frayed, that is a sign that your blinds are reaching the end of their life and are beginning to fall apart and should be replaced soon.

#4: Discolored

The slats on your blinds are designs to hold their color for a long time. If the slats start to become discolored, that means the material has started to deteriorate. This is natural over time, as the blinds experience a lot of direct UV action. When you choose new blinds, be sure to choose ones that contain UV inhibitors; this will help prevent discoloration from the sun.

#5: Loose Close

When you close the slats, they should close nice and tight. If your slats don't close tightly, it is usually best to replace your blinds.

If your slats are warped and bent, discolored, and not closing correctly, those are all signs you need new blinds. If the cord is frayed or the blinds have become hard to operate, they have reached the end of their life and need to be replaced. Contact a company that sells blinds to learn more.
