Everything You Need To Know About Window Tinting

Arthur Menard

When you are looking for a home to buy or rent, large windows bring in light and create sunny spaces. When you are living in that same space, however, the sun can be overwhelming. Not only can it cause glare on television and computer screens, but it can also get in your eyes when you are trying to use the space. Window tinting can help.

Can tinted windows help with heat?

Window tinting reflects light. This, in turn, can help reduce the amount of heat that enters a space. This can be a great help if you have a south-facing picture window that lets in an enormous amount of sunlight in the hot summer months. It can also block harmful UV rays in the process, which is a win-win.

Do tinted windows offer privacy?

While window tinting does offer some privacy during the day, it does not, unfortunately, offer any privacy at night. There is not currently a product on the market that can do both.

Can you still see out with window tinting?

Window tinting blocks the sunlight from coming into your home but does nothing to prevent you from enjoying the view out.

Are there any cases where you should not use window tinting?

Some window manufacturers prefer that you not use window tint on their products. This includes some low-E glass, older insulated windows, and insulated windows that already have a broken seal. Check with your window manufacturer for specifics.

Can You tint the windows if you are a renter?

While your landlord may not appreciate a permanent window tint applied to their windows, you can still have tinted windows. There are window tinting products on the market that are only semi-permanent or re-positionable. Such products can be easily removed when your lease expires.

How do you clean windows with tinting?

Cleaning windows that have window tint applied requires a little forethought. Many professional window cleaners recommend adding ammonia and liquid soap to the wash water to help break up the dirt and help the squeegee glide across the surface. Ammonia is not safe to use on window tinting, whoever.

Furthermore, many window cleaners use a razor blade to remove stubborn debris, like tree sap and bird droppings. A razor, however, will instantly damage the film. Be sure to notify tell anyone that is cleaning your windows that you have window tinting to avoid any problems.

Window tinting can make life in a sunny home much more bearable. Contact a window tinting professional in your area for more information today.
