A Few Things To Know About Having A Glass Railing On Your Balcony

Arthur Menard

Glass railings provide the best view from your balcony. If your condo has a scenic view of the water or twinkling city lights at night, then having a glass railing makes the view even more beautiful. When you're seated on the balcony, your view of the distance is not obstructed like it would be with metal or wood railings. Here are a few things to know about having a glass railing on your condo balcony.

You Can Choose A Framed Or Frameless Style

Glass railings are available in a framed or frameless style. While frameless railings offer the best view, you may want one with a frame to add a little décor and safety. A frameless railing is nearly invisible and someone can walk right into it, although that might not be likely when it is on the edge of a balcony. Framed railings have aluminum posts and a top and bottom rail. The aluminum is powder coated for longevity and to add color. This allows you to add a little decorative touch to your balcony without sacrificing too much of the view.

Glass Railings Can Be Safer For Kids And Pets

If you have small pets, a balcony can be a real danger. It's often possible for a small animal to slip through the rails of a metal or wood railing. The posts may even be far enough apart that your child can poke legs and arms through, or shove toys through. With a glass railing system, there are no large gaps that pose a safety hazard for kids and pets. As long as they can't jump over the top, they can enjoy the balcony with you without constant worry over them being safe.

Glass Railings Are Easy To Maintain

Weather extremes and UV exposure take a toll on your balcony. Wood railings need to be stained to keep them from deteriorating. Glass stands up to outdoor conditions much better. You won't have to paint the rails or worry about insects, UV damage, or rot. All you have to do to maintain your glass railing is wash it to keep the glass nice and clear.

Glass Railings Can Be Frosted For Privacy

While you'll probably want clear glass for the best view, you might want a portion of your balcony to have frosted glass. Putting frosted glass in a corner area would give you a little more privacy for lounging in the sun without being in plain view. The good thing about glass railings is that you can customize them to get the results you want when it comes to their appearance and the view they provide. They'll give your balcony an expansive view and give your condo an upscale appearance. Glass railings can totally transform your balcony and make it a more enjoyable space to relax and entertain your friends.
